Our house is located just a short walk from Westfield shopping centre for all the things you could ever want and plenty you don't really need! Kidzania is great for children. To get a feel for the area, take a walk through historic Shepherd's Bush Market and experience the vibrancy of West London.
Down the road, you are spoilt for choice for parks - with the stunning Holland Park to the West (amazing woodland, famous Japanese Garden) and Ravenscourt Park to the East (beautiful duck pond and excellent playgrounds)!
For nearby expeditions, the river at Hammersmith is lovely for a walk on a good day with plenty of nice pubs to stop at along the way. Alternatively, head up to Paddington on the tube and wander around the basin - take a boat ride on the canal of have brunch on the Darcie and May canal boat. A couple of stops on the central line takes you up to Notting Hill for Portobello market. Holland Park is a joy as is Kensington Gardens and the Palace - or take a pedal boat on the Serpentine, then head to the Serpentine Gallery. Don't miss Leighton House for nearby culture and the Design Museum in Kensington.
The house is also incredibly well situated for London’s Olympia Conference Centre (20min walk, 8min by car), the Shepherds Bush Empire (concert venue, 1min walk) and two of West Londons best loved theatres – the Bush Theatre and the Hammersmith Lyric, both just down the road.
This area is full of cafes, restaurants and grocery stores. If you want to eat out, the challenge will be too much choice! However here are a few recommendations: Westfield obviously covers all the bases for the big chains - our favourite is Ping Pong for great dim sum and good old Pizza Express. There are some fun new ones such as Puckshack which is food and crazy golf and an AllStars Lane if you’re into bowling. Ichiba, also in Westfield offers award-winning Japanese food in both a restaurant and grocery-store setting. Beyond Westfield, Albertine is a great little wine bar which has been around forever - wonky wooden tables and very cosy. We love Jasmine Thai on Goldhawk Road, just 2 mins walk - not expensive, very good food and very friendly. Ditto Le Petit Citron for a French brasserie. Liz Cafe and Swallow coffee shops both do great breakfasts. Our favourite smart restaurants nearby are The Brackenbury, The Ledbury, The Havelock and La Trompette. Oh, and with Soho House's newest addition - White City House - just down the road opposite Wood Lane tube station, there's always somewhere to go to let your hair down.
Lastly, our favourite places to have a drink in the evening are Brewdog for beer, Albertine or the Brackenbury Wine Rooms, The Princess Victoria pub for great family-friendly food and drink and Smiths basement for cocktails.
The joy of living here is that we are so close to all the great London sites!
My friends at City Relay are looking after my home while I am away. They're a management service team of Londoners who are hosts themselves. I trust them to give you a warm welcome! City Relay will look after you.
